Val guiding

Val - Co-Owner

Geoff guiding

Geoff - Co-Owner

Valerie and Geoff are the owners and operators of River Trails Rafting. Valerie grew up in the Maupin area, and her family has been rafting the Deschutes for over 60 years. She has been rafting for 40+ of those years.

Geoff and Val have been married for over 23 years, and his love of the Deschutes started before they met. Both are avid outdoors people and love the river! You may see them on the river guiding, running shuttles, or in the shop.

The Crew

Travis "Tuff"

Tuff has been guiding for 4 years; commercially for 2. He loves being on the water and through guiding he can share the experience of the outdoors and rafting safely with clients. During the off-season, Tuff attends school with a goal to be a heart surgeon. He rafts in the summer and snowboards in the winter.

Grandpa Ron

Ron has been with River Trails since Val and Geoff took over ownership. Ron stays behind the scenes most of the time. Some days he will deliver and pick up the boats for a trip. He can also be found repairing boats, maintaining the vehicles, or loading up the boats with gear. You may even have him as your shuttle driver. He likes working at River Trails because he can meet different people. Working at RT also gives him something to do in his retired life.

Amy (Office Manager)

Amy was five years old the first time she went rafting on the Deschutes River. This trip was a raft rental through River Trails which her parents got for free because they were former employees. This short river adventure, which started below Boxcar Rapid and ended at the BLM Oasis Campground, marked the start of her lifelong love of Maupin and its surrounding areas. In 2017, Amy made the move to “The Dry Side” of the state. She spends the off-season working for the local school district where she enjoys working with all her students.

Kailyn "K-Bean"

Kailyn has been a commercial raft guide for 3 seasons. She grew up on the Deschutes River and knows it like the back of her hand. One of her favorite aspects of guiding is being able to develop connections with people she takes down the river. During the off-season, Kailyn is in the EMT program at Central Oregon Community College. Outside of school she enjoys snowboarding and hiking with her dogs.

Keith

Keith loves the river so much he will take any opportunity to be on the water guiding. His favorite part about guiding is teaching guests about the river and the little town of Maupin.

Clayton

Clay has been friends with guides for years and decided he wanted to get in on the fun. He enjoys being on the river and under the sun. He likes the vibe of being on the river during the summer seasons. During the off-season, he spends time with his friends and gets on the mountain to snowboard. This is his first season with River Trails. A fun fact about Clay: He grew up with a Scottish Lord who happens to be his brother.
