Val - Co-Owner
Geoff - Co-Owner
Valerie and Geoff are the owners and operators of River Trails Rafting. Valerie grew up in the Maupin area, and her family has been rafting the Deschutes for over 60 years. She has been rafting for 40+ of those years.
Geoff and Val have been married for over 23 years, and his love of the Deschutes started before they met. Both are avid outdoors people and love the river! You may see them on the river guiding, running shuttles, or in the shop.
Tuff has been guiding for 4 years; commercially for 2. He loves being on the water and through guiding he can share the experience of the outdoors and rafting safely with clients. During the off-season, Tuff attends school with a goal to be a heart surgeon. He rafts in the summer and snowboards in the winter.
Ron has been with River Trails since Val and Geoff took over ownership. Ron stays behind the scenes most of the time. Some days he will deliver and pick up the boats for a trip. He can also be found repairing boats, maintaining the vehicles, or loading up the boats with gear. You may even have him as your shuttle driver. He likes working at River Trails because he can meet different people. Working at RT also gives him something to do in his retired life.
Amy (Office Manager)
Amy was five years old the first time she went rafting on the Deschutes River. This trip was a raft rental through River Trails which her parents got for free because they were former employees. This short river adventure, which started below Boxcar Rapid and ended at the BLM Oasis Campground, marked the start of her lifelong love of Maupin and its surrounding areas. In 2017, Amy made the move to “The Dry Side” of the state. She spends the off-season working for the local school district where she enjoys working with all her students.
Kailyn has been a commercial raft guide for 3 seasons. She grew up on the Deschutes River and knows it like the back of her hand. One of her favorite aspects of guiding is being able to develop connections with people she takes down the river. During the off-season, Kailyn is in the EMT program at Central Oregon Community College. Outside of school she enjoys snowboarding and hiking with her dogs.
Wyatt is a local Maupin resident who grew up on the river. Wyatt has been guiding with River Trials for three years. His favorite trips to guide are overnighters. He excels in guiding youth trips and enjoys teaching them everything there is to know about the river.
Keith grew up locally and has been guiding for many years, although he has only been with River Trails for two years. Keith loves the river so much he will take any opportunity to be on the water guiding. His favorite part about guiding is teaching guests about the river and the little town of Maupin.
Maddi and Roxi
Maddi is Geoff and Valerie’s daughter. Roxi is her loving shop dog, although shy she is super sweet. You’ll see them side by in the office or behind the wheel of a shuttle bus.
Scott and his family have been residents of Maupin for approximately 9 years. During this time Scott has worked for a variety of rafting companies, loading and hauling boats or shuttling customers. This is his first year with river trials. Scott loves the river and intends to continue working within the business.
Landon has River Trails in his blood, one of the main reasons he decided to work at River Trails. His grandparents used to own the rafting business many years ago. He enjoys the thrill of a busy day and the manual labor that comes with throwing and hauling boats. Landon loves the river and hopes to one day become a guide.
Zane has been a guide with River Trails for the past two years but has been a local resident his whole life. He loves the river so much that in the off season he runs gear boats for overnight hunters and fisherman.
Jason, aka Tarzan is a lifelong Maupin resident and one of the most seasoned river guides at River Trails. He has a passion for the river, being on the water, and guiding. In the winter Jason guides internationally in Costa Rica and other South American countries.
